Metropolitan Backbone Network

• Client/Company: Grupo AMSA S.A.

• Country: Peru

• Website: http://www.grupoamsa.com.pe

• Solution: Apply the wireless platform that will allow TCP/IP protocol traffic and data between AMSA’s group of interconnected LAN’s located in different office locations.

The AMSA S.A Group possesses a high capacity TCP/IP traffic wireless platform along with VoIP telephony, all of which allows the group to keep them and their associate companies (Algodonera S.A, Filamentos Industriales S.A, Industrial Cromotex S.A) all interconnected between each other.

The complete wireless platform is based upon the Multi-band Backhaul/AP Dual Radio MB-ROMBv2 NETKROM devices. These devices are versatile and able to work in multiple frequencies from 900MHz to 6.1GHz.

The solution in the end was to use the non licensed 5GHz band which takes full advantage of the radio frequency spectrum and which has been observed to give less problems over the 2.4GHz band that is widely seen over metropolitan regions.

Project Description

To be able to interconnect all the processing plants in the AMSA Group, it was essential to use the 5GHz band to create the connections.

Robust wireless devices were used to manage the IP traffic, MB-ROMBv2 and then strategically distributed to ensure they were placed in locations where their line of sight was obstacle free.

Each of the remotely located offices work in different segmented LAN’s over the layer three (network layer) of the OSI model.

  • By working in different segmented networks performance is maximized throughout the network. It allows a better administration that would work more effectively by providing more accurate control and maintenance of the network.
  • Additionally by segmenting the network traffic in fragments you are able to obtain a more stable bandwidth usage per user.
  • The MB-ROMBv2 device can work with many important services such as: RIP, DHCP, NAT, QoS, and WPA2 security.

The Wireless Devices installed at Each Point:

  • Model: MB-ROMBv2

  • Wireless device working in layer 3 with routing capabilities and under the IEEE 802.11a wireless standard. Contains two wireless cards that are both individually powered.

  • Model: W5G-25G

  • 5.8GHz 25dBi Parabolic Grid Antenna. Works on the non-licensed band of the ISM standard of 5GHz for the interconnection of each base.

    Benefits:

    • Interconnection network of all companies and the AMSA group.

    • High rate data and information transfer speeds between two locations with the necessary security measures on hand to guarantee a secure connection.

    • Internet distribution from a single point to remote locations maximizing your Internet service coverage.

    • VoIP, a voice communication system that allows bidirectional communication between different remote locations by the use of the radio frequency connections made.

    • Unique and low cost investment due to the simplicity of the wireless system installation and administration.

    • Upgradable technology to superior standards in WiMAX.
