Metropolitan ISP Network

• Solution: Bring Wireless Internet Service to the city of Jicayan, Oaxaca, Mexico using the ISM 2.4 GHz band.

This ISP solution is based on the implementation of the ISPAIR-BS500X which allows the stations clients to interact between them at speeds up to 54 Mbps. All this is done under a system of authentication, data coding, and access lists that provide the network with a security mechanism that prevents unauthorized usage of the wireless network.

All the networks traffic, once implemented, will be centralized in one base station which will provide Internet access and a VoIP using ATAs.

Company Description


Sabbia Telecomm S.A. de C.V. is a company dedicated to give solutions based upon telecommunications or software development. Founded in 2004, their main objective, now and then, is to satisfy their client’s necessities by helping them improve their productivity using solutions in telecommunications, innovations, and providing them with attention and services. Sabbia Telecomm has an operator’s service license for long distance national/international telecommunication; additionally the company also has a long distance calling card service that allows a person to communicate from anywhere in Mexico, USA, or Canada with anyone in the world.

Project Description

The geographic features of the site permitted the operator to implement a Point-to-Multipoint Topology that provided Internet and VoIP services to the whole city.

• Main Link: The main and most important link is located between the operator’s tower and the office which offers the Internet connection. Having around 95% of the city’s view, SABBIA TELECOMM can transport the Internet signal from the central office with an excellent line of sight. This can be observed on the attached photos.

• Base Station: The ISP-BS500GH Base Station was placed upon a high in altitude tower with MiniPCI MB-MSGUHP Modules connected to 90° sectorial antennas of 17dBi gain. Installed 21 meters high on a tower it is currently working with 20 Subscribers.

• Subscribers: Every ISP-CPE500X Subscriber Station is placed upon a one meter high mast for support. They are configured in Routing Client mode to ensure a connection with the Base Station.

To ensure that everything was configured correctly and running at optimal conditions a NETKROM Engineer was sent to offer an onsite training, this also included installation and technical assistance for the installation of the equipment.

The technical assistance was able to train Sabbia Telecomm’s engineering staff on subjects regarding the installation and basic configuration of the wireless equipment.

The models of the wireless equipment used were the following:
  • ISP-BS500GH (4 slot Base Station Wireless Router)
  • MB-ROMB (Wireless Equipment - Wireless Router)
  • ISP-CPE500G/GH/GHP (Wireless Equipment Subscriber)
  • AIR-BR500 (Outdoor Wireless Equipment)
  • W24-17SP90 (Sectored Antenna of High Gain)
